Re: Persecution in Orissa
The violence in Orissa over Christmas has seen over 30 churches and institutions destroyed, many people shot and injured in gunfire from Sangh mobs, and the administration held to ransom. Nuns and pastors have been forced to flee their homes at pain of death and are now hiding in the forest area of the Phulbani district.
We CONDEMN the complicity of the official state machinery in this vandalism and the indifference of the District police to this grave law and order situation.

At least 16 Christians converted back to Hinduism in a ceremony in Orissa's Sundergarh district, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader said on Monday.
People from four families, including men, women and children, formally announced their return to Hinduism on Sunday at a religious function at Tainda village, about 150 km from the district headquarters of Sundergarh, VHP leader Subash Chouhan said.
Those who re-converted to Hinduism are the residents of Tangarashi, Jamundar and Tabada villages, he said. Prior to the ceremony, they had informed the local administration about their wish to change their religion, he said.
At least 733 persons of 161 families of western Orissa have re-converted to Hinduism this year, he said.
