Goa Church Outing - 26th January 2007

Post by RousselMarshall on Mon Jan 28, 2008 1:14 am

Yesterday 26th January, the members of the Goa Church went out for their first ever Christian outing, as a whole church. It was definitely a day that we will remember for a long time to come.

The day began at approx 0745 hrs, with Roussel & James taking off on the red pulsar, fighting the cold, carrying a few mats, and heading for the Arrossim Beach to reserve a place at the picnic spot, coz its generally on a first-come-first-served basis. Upon reaching we found the scene very peaceful and serene, and a fisherman tending to his nets. James, the talkative and friendly guy that he is, struck up conversation with the elderly fisherman, and thanks to this we could pass the next 90 minutes or so without boredom. We also saw a few dolphins jump around quiet close to the shore....

Then came Prakash uncle with the rest of the mats, ice (to keep the softdrinks cold), food (yummy.....) and a few more people. The shifting of the ice and stuff took some time, but we finally got that done. By that time another picnic group turned up to set camo at the place, but after negotiations they moved to a different place.

Then came another busload and 2 carloads of people... and the Outing truly began.

Opps, I forgot abt the 7 (my fav no.) bombay brothers who decided to grace the event by their presence. They were brought by Socorro uncle and the Van got stuck in the sand. But using our God given windom and some brute force we were able to get the vehicle out of trouble to a safe place. We thank the bombay brothers.

We had the entire crowd seperated into 4 groups - Red, Blue, Yellow & Orange. The people in the groups decided to have a name for their group and hence Red became the "King Of Kings", Blue, the "Jerusalem, Yellow, the "Israelites" & Orange, the "Zion". Just for the record, Israel from bombay was in the King of Kings team.

We began with the action songs and moved on to the Bible quiz for the elderly. The quiz was based on Daniel. "Israelites" team won this quiz. The Quiz for youth, based on "Esther" moved onto the Rapid fire after the preliminary round failed to turn up a clear winner. The tie was between Israelites and King of Kings. The King of King team won eventually.

Thereafter we had the skit competition. The Zion team enacted the "Prodigal Son", King of kings enacted "The Good Samaritan", Jerusalem enacted a "united we stand divided we fall" themed skit, while the Israelites enacted Naaman's cleansing from leprosy. The winners were the Zion team and runner's up were the King of Kings.... Best actor was of of course Josaiya brother from bombay (we didnt give him the prize, though) however the prize winner was George brother from Goa.

Next up was lunch followed by Chinese Connection, Bible housie and football - very tiring but very enjoyable....

Post football we had "passing the parcel" followed by hot cups of Black Tea made by Benny Aunty and gang....

The day was brought to a close soon after the prize distribution.

Thus was the First Official Goa Church Outing... We hope it would not be the last!!

Praise The Lord!!
