BEING THANKFUL TO GOD

Post by RousselMarshall on Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:09 pm

BEING THANKFUL TO GOD

Every day we get is God’s gift to us. We should never think that it is because of our goodness, or our righteousness that God is blessing us, as the word of God says that God makes the sun to rise on the good and on the evil and sends rain on the just and on the unjust alike (Mat.5:45).

We should therefore always be grateful to God for every thing we have received from Him. To be grateful, we need to be humble and accept that, of our own, we are not worthy to receive any thing from the Lord. We should remember that we are but a vapor. James 4:14 says “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

In I Corinthians 4:7 we read, “for who maketh thee to differ from another and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? Now, if thou didst receive it why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it”. We see that we have nothing of our own. Whatever we have, is from our Lord. All things we have to day have been given to us by our God, to use happily and not to possess as our own. When we humbly use the things God gives us, God will give us more, but if we become proud of what we have, forgetting that nothing is of our own, we may lose what we have also. Therefore we have nothing to boast about anything we have.

In James 4:6 we read, “But He giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” We see that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Saul when he was small in his own eyes, God lifted him to be the king of Israel. We read in I Samuel 15:17, “And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

The word of God says to us that we have to honor all men. 1Peter 2:17 says, “Honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.” But if we in our heart dishonor even a begger on the road side, it shows the presence of pride in us. Pride is a terrible destructive force. Pride leads to fall. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Therefore let us be humble knowing that of our own we have nothing and be thankful to God for every thing He has given us freely to enjoy. ITimothy 6:17 says, “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded; nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

God bless you abundantly.
